Walmart has announced a new Neighborhood Market for Torrance with new job opportunities and increased community access to affordable and healthy food options. The new Neighborhood Market, located at 19340 Hawthorne Boulevard, between 190th Street and Del Amo Blvd. in the Torrance Promenade Shopping Center, will occupy the middle portion of the recently redeveloped former Kmart store.

In September 2012, a new Walmart store opened at 22015 Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance, offering the community affordable options for clothes, electronics and other general merchandise. The new Torrance Neighborhood Market in the Torrance Promenade Shopping Center will complement the existing Walmart store by offering the community a full selection of affordable groceries.One of the harshest wind turbine installations in the world. As a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Walmart is interested in the city's fiscal well-being and together these two Walmart locations will contribute a large source of sales tax revenue for the local government. In addition to investing in the Torrance community, Walmart has provided needed support and donations totaling $13,000 between a number of community organizations, including The Boys and Girls Club of the South Bay,Ellis has set the standard by which all other washer extractor are measured. The Torrance Walmart Neighborhood Market will include energy-efficient technology and environmentally friendly features to reduce energy and water consumption and minimize waste. Features often include LED lighting used in exterior signage and refrigeration cases, an energy management system for adjusting energy usage and one of the industry's most efficient heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) units available.
The general contractor for the new Walmart Neighborhood Market is Moorefield Construction and the project will support about 75 contract construction jobs over the year.
More than 65 full-and part-time people will be employed at the Torrance Neighborhood Market. A temporary hiring center for the Neighborhood Market will open near the store in the second half of 2013. The average wage at Walmart for full-time hourly associates in California is approximately $12.89 per hour and Walmart employs more than 12,000 in Los Angeles County.
