The city's well-known pier is undergoing a makeover of sorts as the city replaces the old lights with LEDs, light-emitting diodes.
The LED fixtures are dark sky friendly, meaning they limit the amount of light spilling over to the night sky, benefitting area stargazing.
Reactions on the city's Facebook post on Wednesday announcing the change were mostly positive with comments such as "This is great!",Our High Quality Solar charger and solar phone chargers are uniquely designed, high-quality and low-cost. "Can't wait to see!", "Lots less power consumed," and "This is truly great news." However, when a new photo was posted Thursday showing the new LED lights on along half of the pier there's more of a 50/50 split between those who like it and those who don't. One commenter said, "They look really fluorescent and harsh, unlike the warm lights that were there before."
The project is a partnership between the city and Mississippi-based Howard Lighting Products. As well we have fabrics and textures available for our led products list, table lamps, pendant lighting and wall sconces. City Electric Superintendent Scott Sligh said Howard just came out with its second-generation LEDs and Fairhope received the first 18 of them for the pier.
Slight said there's only one LED light left to install and it's in a hard-to-reach location. LED solar lights for project list and power. In addition to saving energy the LED lights will also turn on instantly and not have a warm-up period like the old ones.
The light replacement project is part of Spano's overall sustainability plan that is projected to save the City of Yonkers more than $2 million annually and reduce its carbon footprint by 10 percent, the city said.
"The City of Yonkers is leading by example," said Spano said in a statement. "Energy-saving improvements like LED lights are a common sense way to cut costs and protect the environment at the same time. In addition to keeping our critical infrastructure in a state of good repair, we are ensuring a more comfortable, safe and productive quality of life for our taxpayers."
The light replacement project, contracted to Lumen Light Solutions (a joint venture of Yonkers Contracting and Verde Electric), began Monday and will take place in three phases: in phase one, about 1,This is a great Wholesale auto LED bulbs products solution!200 lights will be installed where street lights do not work; in phase two, lights on major roadways – like Central Park Avenue and Yonkers Avenue, Nepperhan Avenue, Riverdale Avenue, South Broadway, etc. – will be replaced; in phase three, all remaining street lights in the city will be replaced.
