Showcasing Cumbria at UK renewables flagship

More than that, we want to continually portray the area as an attractive proposition to those considering inward investment and furthermore we have the opportunity to meet up with our counterparts in Canada to foster stronger economic ties across a range of sectors.

“Increasingly taking our offering to the international marketplace will ensure that we will be in a strong position to maximise any trade and investment opportunities that arise from a more positive outlook on the economic front with some of these new and existing trading partners.”

One of the West Cumbrian firms attending will be Forth Engineering, based at Flimby, near Maryport.

Forth Engineering recently opened its doors to businessmen who came from all over the UK and some from overseas to showcase its technological advances and robotic engineering.

Forth Engineering has already made a name for itself in the nuclear and nuclear decommissioning industry.

But in order to diversify into different markets, company owner Mark Telford set up links with German firm Visatec.A letter folding machine is a piece of equipment which is designed to fold paper. Uwe Reisacher, owner of the Bavarian company and his sales co-ordinator Marcus Jocham came to Cumbria for the open day.

On show was a robot designed to climb wind turbines to carry out maintenance checks.

A camera, developed by Forth Engineering and Visatec for the nuclear industry, is being used to reveal the secrets under the Antarctic sea ice and to help monitor climate change. It can also be used in the North Sea, in decommissioning, researching tidal power and renewables. All Continental flatwork ironer offer easy-to-operate controls that provide efficient performance and flexibility.

Forth Engineering was one of the 12 West Cumbrian companies which took part in a successful Britain’s Energy Coast-backed trade mission to Japan and South Korea in late 2012.

As a result Mr Telford is in talks with the nuclear industry in Japan, offering help in the wake of the tsunami and earthquake.

Graham McAvoy, Forth Engineering business development manager, said the firm was looking forward to forging new relationships and opening up new opportunities at the Aberdeen conference.

He said: “The company is having great success supplying ROVs,It enables washer extractor to communicate with chemical pumping machines. high definition cameras and bespoke tooling for the nuclear decommissioning industry and is now diversifying into other areas such as designing and supplying equipment for decommissioning in the oil and gas industry, wind turbine maintenance surveys, wave and tidal power and oceanic surveys with our ROVs and high definition cameras.”

We are always looking at ways technology can work in difficult to reach areas, places where you don’t want to send a human being.

We can supply a vacuum ROV climber capable of climbing wind turbines to carry out photographic and sonar surveys, paint stripping and re-coating and cleaning.Six panel tracking system delivers more energy from skystream. If the technology doesn’t exist we will look at developing new products to suit our customers’ needs.

“Britain’s Energy Coast will be highlighting renewable energy opportunities in the area such as the Solway Energy Gateway and our ambitions for a district heating system in North Workington and to help some of our businesses identify opportunities in other renewable sectors.

“On the other side we will be helping the likes of James Fisher Nuclear and Forth Engineering identify other opportunities. We share many interests with Aberdeen, which is based primarily on oil and gas, and ourselves based primarily on nuclear. We both want to branch out and we both have transferrable skills and technologies to do that. Essentially many businesses within the West CAll the personnel that deal with our industrial washing machine servicing are dedicated to the service department.umbria nuclear supply chain are manufacturers and engineers, they just happen to be mainly focused on one sector. But, for example, their skills and expertise can be just as relevant for, say, wave and tidal projects.”
